The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Cooperates With Enterprises to Build an Overseas Agricultural Technology Cooperation and Talent Training Base
From May 26 to June 2, Jia Guangdong, member of the Party Group of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Director of the Department of Personnel of CAAS, led a delegation of the CAAS to visit Australia and Malaysia. The Center for International Agricultural Research of the CAAS and foreign research institutions and enterprises conducted research and consultation about joint construction of international agricultural technology cooperation and talent training bases. Nie Fengying, executive deputy director of the Center for International Agricultural Research, accompanied the visit.
In Australia, the delegation visited the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University. We had in-depth exchanges on the planning and cooperation mode of the international agricultural talent training program of the CAAS with Professor Iran Harper, Dean of the School of Business at the University of Melbourne, and Professor Gregory Harper from the Research, Innovation and Industrialization Department of Agricultural College, etc. We invited the University of Melbourne to visit the CAAS at an appropriate opportunity. At La Trobe University, the delegation met with Professor Shaun Collin, Dean of the School of Life Sciences and Co-Director of the Center for Agricultural Biosciences, and the expert Fei Jiexin, the Industry Promotion Division of the Office of the Vice-President of La Trobe University and the International Coordination Office of the Victorian Government in China and others conducted a preliminary discussion on the scientific and technological innovation, achievement transformation and flexible introduction of talents between the two parties.
At the invitation of Macquarie, Jia Guangdong attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the "China-Australia Precision Agriculture Academic Exchange Event" co-organized by China Investment Corporation, the Center for International Agricultural Research of the CAAS and Macquarie in Sydney. The next day, with Mr. Frank Kwok, head of Macquarie's Asia-Pacific liaison, and Ms. Elizabeth O' Leary, Global Agriculture Manager, discussed the joint establishment of an overseas central agricultural technology cooperation and talent training base. Macquarie said that cooperating with the CAAS to organize precision agriculture academic exchange activities is a reflection of Macquarie's "responsible investment" and sustainable community development concepts. China Investment Corporation, Macquarie and the Center for International Agricultural Research will jointly develop a roadmap for establishing a long-term cooperation mechanism for agricultural academic exchanges and talent training between China and Australia.
In Malaysia, the delegation inspected the preparation and construction of the Malaysian Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Industrial Park invested by leading enterprises in Jiangxi Province, and held talks with the company leaders on rice and food processing technology cooperation and farmer training. The two parties have signed an agreement on jointly building the Center for International Agricultural Research’s overseas agricultural technology cooperation and training base. The delegation also exchanged views with the Negeri Perak governor and state deputy on the state's agricultural production and investment attraction needs, which is of great significance to promoting cooperation under the framework of the China-Malaysia Agricultural Cooperation Joint Working Group.
