Hackathon | The 2023 Youth Hackathon Awards Ceremony Successfully Held at the 7th GLAST
On October 26, 2023, the awards ceremony for the Youth Hackathon, jointly organized by CAAS and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), was successfully conducted at the 7th GLAST. The ceremony concluded with the presence of top leaders and guests from agricultural science and technology institutions and international organizations. Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, Chief Scientist of FAO, Dr. Sun Tan, Vice President of CAAS, and Zhang Changfeng, Deputy Mayor of Sanya presented certificates to the first, second, and third prize-winning teams in the "New Technology," "New Services," and "New Tracks" categories of the 2022 inaugural Hackathon.
The theme of the first Hackathon in 2022 was "Reducing Food Waste and Loss." Proposals were sought globally, and after a six-month competition involving 52 youth teams from 21 countries, nine outstanding teams emerged.
The second Hackathon in 2023 focused on "Green Low-Carbon Agriculture," involving 64 teams from 27 countries. The competition concluded on October 17. Dr. Ismahane Elouafi announced the winners of the 2023 Hackathon and delivered a speech during the award ceremony. In her address, Dr. Ismahane also unveiled the theme for the next Hackathon – "Urban Agriculture." She encouraged young participants to actively contribute to agricultural innovation and sustainable development, addressing global agricultural challenges. Dr. Ismahane Elouafi officially announced the theme for the 2024 Hackathon as "Urban Agriculture" during the ceremony. The recruitment deadline is mid-July 2024, and the finals will be broadcast globally as the flagship event of the 2024 World Food Forum in October.
