"The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and AsiaInfo E-commerce Poverty Alleviation Mechanism and Experience Seminar" and "Empowerment of women in the Asia Pacific regionand Agricultural Development Training Seminar" were held in Beijing
"From July 23 to 27, 2019, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Agriculture Information Institute and the Center for International Agricultural Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences held the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization and AsiaInfo E-commerce Poverty Alleviation Mechanism and Experience Training Seminar" and "Empowerment of women in the Asia Pacific regionand Agricultural Development Training Seminar". The opening ceremony of the conference was hosted by Researcher Nie Fengying, executive deputy director of the Institute of Information and Deputy Director of the Center for International Agricultural Research of the CAAS. Ambassador Gu Ziping of the Department of Eurasia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Women's Development of the All-China Women's Federation Tai Liehong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Deputy Director Ke Xiaohua of the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS, Zhuang Youyi, Director of the Department of International Economics of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Jiaodian, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
The seminar aims to train a group of young researchers in the fields of women's empowerment, e-commerce development and poverty reduction from SCO and ASEAN member states, and promote cross-regional research and development between SCO and ASEAN member states under the "Belt and Road" initiative, research cooperation on multi subject empowerment of women, e-commerce development and poverty reduction, providing intellectual support and policy influence for women's empowerment and e-commerce development in the Asia-Pacific region. At the same time, by sharing China's practices, experiences and poverty reduction achievements in women's empowerment and rural e-commerce development, it will provide a good example for the SCO and ASEAN member states to promote women's empowerment and the development of rural e-commerce, as well as to enhance women's abilities and reduce poverty.
A total of 14 SCO and ASEAN member states including Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, India, Pakistan, Turkey, South Korea, Jordan, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka were invited to this seminar, and a total of 30 government officials and researchers from 10 countries including Laos, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and the World Bank Group.
And more than 40 Chinese representatives, including representatives from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Zhejiang University, Southwest University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Women's Studies Institute of China, China Consular Affairs, Educating Girls of Rural China, International Community Support for Agriculture Alliance, e-commerce companies, county-level e-commerce leaders and practitioners, etc., jointly conducted in-depth discussions and training on topics such as the role of rural e-commerce development in rural economic development and poverty reduction, the inclusive development of women and the experience of women's empowerment in various countries.
Through in-depth and extensive exchanges, the participants shared their respective countries' practices, achievements, and problems in e-commerce poverty reduction, and gained a deeper understanding of China's e-commerce poverty reduction practice. Representatives attending the meeting expressed that this has important reference value for promoting the development of e-commerce and poverty reduction in the country. The meeting also shared the current status and experiences of women's empowerment in various countries, especially the role played by rural women in agricultural production activities and the existing problems. In recent years, China has accumulated a lot of valuable experience in women's empowerment and protection which are worth learning from. The conference successfully publicized a number of good practices and successful cases of women's emerging in the field of agricultural internet entrepreneurship under the current situation and institutional guarantees of women's empowerment in China, as well as the new economic situation.
This seminar has built a communicate network of researchers and practitioners covering women's empowerment and e-commerce poverty alleviation in the SCO and AsiaInfo economies, and it has important guiding significance for enhancing women's empowerment between economies, exchange and cooperation on e-commerce development and poverty reduction.
