The Center for International Agricultural Research co-organized the "APEC Seminar on Promoting Green Agriculture and Food Productivity through Agricultural Technology Cooperation" and delivered a special presentation
On November 24-25, 2022, the "APEC Seminar on Promoting Green Agriculture and Food Productivity through Agricultural Technology Cooperation" was held online, organized by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and co-organized by the Center for International Agricultural Research of the CAAS and the APEC International Agricultural Green Development Professional Science and Technology Innovation Institute under the "Belt and Road" initiative. Over 200 experts, scholars, and graduate students from APEC member economies, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Russia, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand, participated in the seminar.
The seminar focused on topics related to green agriculture development, including breeding, agricultural meteorology, grain loss reduction, crop growth modeling, soil modules, green development policies, agricultural development pathways in the context of dual-carbon goals, and natural resource conservation. Twelve experts from organizations such as the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Office of Agricultural Economics in Thailand, the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry in Malaysia, the University of Southern Queensland in Australia, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, and Academy of National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration were invited to deliver academic presentations. Dr. Li Huishang, Associate Researcher and Deputy Director of the General Office of the Center for International Agricultural Research, participated in the conference and delivered a thematic report titled "Analysis of China's Sugar Industry Competitiveness and Sustainable Development Strategy". The presentation covered various aspects of the sugar industry, including sugar feedstock production, sugar processing, international trade, and shared insights into the competitiveness of China's sugar industry. Dr. Li also discussed the macro situation, opportunities, challenges facing the sugar industry, and exchanged views on strategies for sustainable development in the industry under new circumstances.
