Researcher from the International Food Policy Research Institute gave an academic presentation at Agricultural Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences
On August 25th, 2016, Zhang Wei, a researcher at the International Food Policy Institute (IFPRI), was invited to visit the Agricultural Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Center for International Agricultural Research, and gave a special report titled "Resource and Market Research and English Writing Experience Sharing". More than 30 young researchers and graduate students from Agricultural Information Institute, t Institute of Agricultural Economics and Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agricultural, as well as researchers from the IFPRI Beijing Office, attended the seminar. Zhang Wei, based on his main research projects at IFPRI, mainly introduced three research methods, including farmer surveys and the application of econometric methods, behavioral analysis and bioeconomic models and shared his skills in writing English papers and how to publish them in English journals. Zhang Wei also introduced the IMPACT model for agricultural products and trade developed by IFPRI and its progress in the "Research on the Impact of China Africa Agricultural Technology Transfer" project supported by Center for International Agricultural Research. Researcher Nie Fengying, Deputy Director of Center for International Agricultural Research, believed that Dr. Zhang Wei's research context well reflected the research direction of IFPRI, and her methodology provided good reference value and significance for the research topics and directions of Chinese agricultural policy researchers. For young researchers nowadays, the topic selection of a paper should focus on international trends and be cutting-edge. During the discussion session, participants actively interacted with Zhang Wei, discussed the problems in the use of the IMPACT model, how to better organize experimental research and how to ensure effective field research in depth. This experience sharing has expanded the research ideas of researchers, strengthened their understanding of research methods and English paper writing, and helped to enhance further communication and cooperation between IFPRI, Agricultural Information Institute and the Center for International Agricultural Research.
Dr. Zhang Wei is a key member of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's international cooperation organization project "Implementation Mechanism and Effect Evaluation of Precision Poverty Alleviation and Internet Poverty Alleviation" jointly applied by the International Information Research Office of Agricultural Information Institute and IFPRI. During her visit, Zhang Wei also discussed the research perspective and methods of the project with the research team and how to strengthen further communication and cooperation between IFPRI, Agricultural Information Institute and the Center for International Agricultural Research.
