The seminar on "Agricultural Technology Transfer between China and Africa: Impact, Mechanism, and Partnership" was held in Beijing
"On the afternoon of September 27, the seminar on 'Agricultural Technology Transfer between China and Africa: Impact, Mechanism, and Partnership,' hosted by the Center for International Agricultural Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), and co-organized by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), was held in Beijing. This seminar represents a mid-term activity of the 'Mechanism and Impact of Sino-African Agricultural Technology Transfer' research project conducted in collaboration between the Agricultural Information Institute of CAAS, the Center for International Agricultural Research, and IFPRI. Representatives from more than 40 domestic and international organizations, including the China International Development Cooperation Agency, Foreign Economic Cooperation Center,the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR), FARA, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), IFPRI, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), the International Potato Center (CIP), the Office of the President of Tanzania, Makerere University in Uganda, the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS, the Agricultural Information Institute of CAAS, the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development at CAAS, Northwest A&F University, and relevant enterprises, attended the seminar.
Dr. Nie Fengying, Vice Director of the Agricultural Information Institute and Deputy Director of the Center for International Agricultural Research of CAAS, presided over the opening ceremony. Mr. Liu Xiaoheng, Director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, Mr. Gong Xifeng, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS, Dr. Yemi Akinbamijo, Executive Director of FARA, and Dr. Kristin Davis, Senior Research Fellow at IFPRI, delivered opening speeches. Dr. Chen Zhigang, Senior Research Fellow and Director of the East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia Office at IFPRI, presented the keynote report on behalf of the research group of the mechanism and impact of agricultural technology transfer in China-African, showcasing the research results and progress of the project on the impacts and mechanisms of China-African agricultural technology transfer. Deputy Director Nie Fengying proposed the initiative to establish the China-African Agricultural Technology Transfer Alliance, jointly initiated by the Center for International Agricultural Research of CAAS, IFPRI, GFAR, and FARA, and introduced the draft constitution for the alliance. Representatives from different institutions engaged in in-depth discussions on the initiative and reached preliminary consensus.
