CAAS President Meets New FAO Representative in China
On May 7, Prof. Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, met with Mr. Carlos Aldeco, the newly appointed FAO Representative in China. The two sides exchanged views on further deepening their cooperation.
Prof. Wu Kongming highlighted the fruitful outcomes achieved through the collaboration between CAAS and FAO in recent years, with increasingly frequent exchanges at multiple levels. He noted that the FAO-CAAS Innovation Platform has made remarkable progress and that CAAS has been actively engaged in FAO’s South-South Cooperation initiatives, strengthening agricultural science and technology partnerships with developing countries and contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to global agricultural development. He proposed the establishment of a long-term cooperation mechanism with the FAO Representative Office in China to further consolidate the FAO-CAAS Innovation Platform, jointly design flagship and South-South cooperation projects, and fully leverage existing platforms for technical collaboration. He emphasized the importance of scaling up the application of China’s agricultural scientific and technological achievements and best practices to a wider range of developing countries, with the aim of enhancing their capacity in poverty alleviation, agricultural development, and food security.
Mr. Carlos Aldeco stated that CAAS has been a longstanding strategic partner of FAO and that there is great potential for future collaboration. He expressed hope for deepening exchanges and collaboration with CAAS to better support China’s agricultural and rural development, and to jointly advance sustainable agricultural development worldwide.
Officials from the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS attended the meeting.
