Advancing the Transformation and Application of International Agricultural Research Think Tank Achievements
At the 5th International Agricultural Research Conference held on October 26, 2021, Dr. Nie Fengying, Deputy Director of the Agricultural Information Institute and Executive Deputy Director of Center for International Agricultural Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, presented the latest progress in the application of the "Belt and Road" Global Agricultural Model(the Silk Road Model) and research achievements in agricultural science and technology strategy. She explained that since its establishment in January 2016, Center for International Agricultural Research has focused on five aspects of work: international agricultural think tank research, international agricultural information services, "going global" of agricultural science and technology, international agricultural talent training, and coordinating national work. The center is an Agricultural Foreign Cooperation Service Platform, which has built an agricultural foreign cooperation service platform covering 91 countries and 14 industries, with data from over 2 million dynamic pieces of information. It has released country-specific development and cooperation research reports for 101 countries, published "International Agricultural Product Market Research" for 20 important agricultural products for four consecutive years, and produced more than 30 special reports with leadership instructions. The center has conducted over 20 international exchange training sessions and seminars with more than 2000 participants.
The Silk Road Model is a global multi-market partial equilibrium model for agricultural products jointly developed by Center for International Agricultural Research, the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the International Food Policy Research Institute(IFPRI). It covers 24 countries and regions, including China, the United States, the European Union, etc., and involves 28 agricultural products and their processed products such as rice, wheat, corn, etc. The model is used for global agricultural market forecasting, policy analysis, and impact studies, such as assessing the impact of drought on the global and Chinese agricultural product markets and optimizing China's soybean trade pattern. In addition, the Center for International Agricultural Research has focused on creating a series of research reports on agricultural science and technology strategy decisions. Reports such as "Analysis of the Global Competitiveness of Chinese Agricultural Science and Technology Papers and Patents," "Analysis and Interpretation of Frontiers of Global Agricultural Research Hot spots," and "Major Advances in Chinese Agricultural Science" have been released at the China Agricultural Science and Technology Development Summit Forum. The analysis report on the development trend of science and technology in the field of agricultural disciplines comprehensively carried out 10 major agricultural disciplines, including crops, plant protection, and animal husbandry and 54 research directions in the field of science and technology measurement and situation analysis. This work provides strong support for the development planning and strategic layout of disciplines at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Looking ahead, the Center for International Agricultural Research will focus more on major strategic issues, better listen to the needs of enterprises, improve information platforms, and provide better support for national decisions, corporate decisions, and more convenient services for more people.
