1. Project Background
In 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed the cooperative initiative to build the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st-Century Maritime Silk Road." The aim was to actively develop economic partnerships with countries along the route, creating a community of shared interests, destiny, and responsibility characterized by political mutual trust, economic integration, and cultural inclusiveness. In 2015, the Chinese government released the "Vision and Actions on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road" and successfully hosted two sessions of the Belt and Road International Cooperation Summit Forum.
Agriculture is a significant industry in most of “The Belt and The Road” countries, with fruit production industry being one of the most important cash crop sectors. In “The Belt and The Road” countries, such as Thailand. Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Madagascar and other Asia and African countries, fruit production industry serves as a cornerstone industry and a vital economic resource for fruit farmers in certain regions. It plays a crucial role in bolstering the national economy and enhancing the well-being of the population.
China's fruit production industry has developed rapidly, integrating and innovating a series of high-quality development technologies such as excellent varieties, efficient cultivation methods, environmentally friendly pest control, fruit storage preservation, and processing. These technologies have played a critical role in China's efforts to alleviate poverty and revitalize rural areas. The promotion and demonstration of Chinese fruit production industry technologies will provide significant support to the fruit production industry development of countries participating in The Belt and The Road Initiative, thereby promoting the rapid development of their agricultural economies.
2. Training Objectives
By utilizing the Chinese high-quality fruit production industry development model and advanced technologies, the goal is to encourage these countries to elevate their fruit production industry standards, enhance fruit quality, and boost economic benefits. This effort is crucial for strengthening scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and "The Belt and The Road" partner countries, further enhancing the level of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Organizing training workshops on high-quality fruit production industry development technologies for "The Belt and The Road" countries aims to train researchers, educators, producers, and technology extension personnel in the field of fruit tree research, teaching, production, and technology promotion from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan,Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia and other countries. This initiative aims to promote the high-quality development of the fruit production industry in these countries, support their agricultural growth and poverty alleviation efforts, and strengthen China's influence in advancing poverty reduction in the region.
